Project updates

A growing community of families

Recruitment and data collection for the BISCUIT study are progressing really well. We are incredibly grateful to all the children, teenagers and parents who have given their time to take part. With every family who joins us, we are building a richer picture of children and young people’s experiences, which will help us understand how best to support them.

Sharing our research

Sharing early findings at the Otto Wolff Conference

BISCUIT team member Marina Martinou recently presented a poster at the Otto Wolff Conference at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, sharing our preliminary findings on sleep problems following traumatic brain injury in children and young people. The poster prompted interesting discussions with clinicians and researchers about sleep after childhood brain injury and the next steps for our work.

You can view the abstract and poster on our Posters and Presentations page.

Sharing parents’ views on sleep interventions

Michael Yoong, a BISCUIT project lead, recently gave a talk at the NMTRG Major Trauma Rehabilitation Conference, sharing our research into parents’ views on sleep interventions for children recovering from traumatic brain injury. Parents highlighted concerns about sleep and favoured approaches such as environmental changes and sleep hygiene over medication. These findings are helping to inform the development of a sleep intervention that is practical, acceptable and responsive to the needs of children and their families.

You can watch a recording of Michael’s talk and view the abstract on our Posters and Presentations page.
